With my nature enthusiast friends from the Philippines, we paid a visit to Sungai Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR) early Sunday morning.  We parked at the usual carpark B.   The weather was fine and we explored the new boardwalk leading to the coastal walk and carpark C. The new boardwalk leads to dragonfly pods, mud skipper pods etc etc before reaching the coastal walk.  This new area has been spruced up and there are lots of interesting diversions where you can climb up to a hide and view the surroundings.

The mud skipper area was quite interesting for the large mud skippers there….

This beautiful greyish mangrove pit viper was comfortably nestled in the V of a low tree just a few inches off the ground next to the gravel track…

I’d been trying to spot this viper for the longest time and here it was at last!…Unfortunately, we were rushing off to get them to the airport on time and I could only manage this shot…

But when J heard of this beauty, I was easily persuaded to go back again with him in the late afternoon to take more pix….he assured me that the viper would still be in the same place….but even before we got to the spot where we’d seen the serpent, he casually said ‘Here’s a snake…….’

I was so glad we came back to get these extra pix; as J had predicted, the snake was still in the same place!

    • Thank you for visiting my blog…Singapore whilst a busy city has surprisingly good wildlife etc. I would go Sungai Buloh WR as I wrote, and you could go to Nee Soon Swamps, Pasir Ris Park where the birding is good…

  1. Dear Natural Traveller,

I am an undergraduate from National University of Singapore, and would like to request to use one of your photos for my assignment, which requires me to create a mock poster to promote Sungei Buloh. I greatly appreciate your consideration, hope to hear from you soon! Thank you! 🙂

    Best Regards,
