Our last morning in Chiangmai, our hosts kindly brought us to Mae Hia Agricultural College whose grounds are a favourite birding site…I’d been here in 2017 last….

The verdant grounds of Mae Hia Agricultural College in Chiangmai
A striated swallow welcomed us
as did some red dumped swallows
Incoming lineated barbet
paddy field pipit
but the abiding memory of Mae Hia will be the endless screeching of the red wattled lapwings ….
a more restful lineated barbet
quite a few hoopoes were present
a very handsome wood swallow
wood swallow tending to nestlings
black drongos posing
squabbling mynah and black drongo
plain prinia
good looking black collared starling
Siamese Pied Starling
coppersmith barbet
Final thrill of the morning was the planned release of 2 shikras who had been nursed back to health by the Lanna Bird Conservation Society
The slow release…
and off he goes
back to where he belongs in the wild
This is the second shikra…he didn’t fly far away like the first one….
He just perched magnificently in a nearby tree and watched us for a few minutes before finally flying off

A great way to spenda few hours in the early morning at Mae Hia.
