Svalbard (6) Zodiacs to the water….

On our penultimate day, when we had crossed back over the Arctic Ocean to the Svalbard archipelago, we finally got a chance to get into our Zodiac equivalent Pioner boats to explore Magdalena fjord on the north western side of Svalbard. It’s a bit of a chore getting the outdoor waterproof parka on with the life jacket etc……

A very distant sighting of a lone male polar bear wandering on the shore..
A walrus colony….very different from the lone walrus we had gotten close to before
because the polar bear wasn’t very far away, we were not allowed to go on the land
we had a sad viewing of a deceased polar bear too
This distant female Eider duck was our only sighting of the duck

this was our last glacier before heading back to Longyearben after 10 days at sea….

Whilst the zodiac outing was fun, togging up with the parkas was a pain……and a shame we didnt get to land on shore…we headed back to the Isfjorden….
