In Pattaya for a meeting and we had a morning free and engaged bird guide ‘Blue’ to guide us and he suggested we drive out to Bang Phra Reservoir about an hour from Pattaya. We left at 6am and arrived there by 7am where a park ranger escorted us…

Arriving at Bang Phra with our guide Blue dressed in what else but Blue….
A lovely Hoopoe welcomed us
as did some white breasted wood swallows
A splendid green billed malkoha
Baya weaver nests aplenty!
Baya weaver weaving away
Green bee eaters were the dominant bee eaters
we then walked along an open stretch under the blazing sun to get to the reservoir…
magnificent lesser adjutant stork
open billed storks
black winged stilt
pelicans posing
diving little tern
surfacing little tern
we saw the white crested laughing thrush attacking something……a beautiful snake….
On our way back we saw several blue birds…..not the least of which was the Indochinese Roller
A common enough white throated Kingfisher taking off…we also glimpsed a very shy blue winged pitta
Last bird of the morning was the cute Asian Barred Owlet with an identified lunch in his claws…

A good way to spend a few hours if you’re in the Pattaya neighbourhood….
