Kranji Marshes again in August
When: August 2018 Weather: hot 28C
Nikon P900
When I bring visitors or new birders, I often head to Kranji Marshes which while less scenic than the nearby Sungai Buloh wetlands often yields more forest bird varieties….
No sooner than we were on our way and turning the corner did a colourful form flash past my front windscreen and alight on a tree just next to us!

we had barely entered the KM when we saw a couple of photographers shoooting this nest…

the typical ‘cup’ nest of a a Malayan Pied Fantail…with two chicks within

waiting for mum or dad to return with breakfast

and the parent fantail was indeednearby watching us watching her offspring

the common but nevertheless very attractive black naped oriole

blue throated bee eater with an insect in mouth

getting ready to swallow

and with a toss, down the hatch…

Here a couple courting

a rather better picture of the juvenile blue thraoted bee eater. (Thanks to LKC for ID)

The asian glossy starlings with their red eyes were active

juevenile starling with parent…arent’s kids demanding these days??

red breasted parakeets

A Brahminy kire soared overhead

probable female pink necked pigeon

This lively fellow then teased us flitting around and barely settling for a few seconds…common Iora

common iora

the dollar birds were out in force and we had quite a few sightings

and then this raptor in the distance…a black winged kite

black winged kite with red eye

perched majestically eyeing us…picture taken from the top of the viewing tower at the end of the trail

from the tower, we had good if distant views of the red wattled lapwings

the statue like purple heron

white throated Kingfisher

white throated KF in the light

and last bird of the morning just before we left, was this black and white bird..

A pied triller

the dollar bird bade us farewell
A couple of hours birding with a pretty decent yield followed by breakfast at the nearby Bollywood Farms made for a fun morning. Recommended.
