In New England for a meeting and we stayed in Kent, Connecticut for a few days at the delightful Firefly Inn, a part of the Kent Collection.

The charming Fireside Inn in Kent…
The back garden of the Firefly Inn was very pretty and I saw quite a few birds at the bottom of the garden
Amongst the many sparrows flitting around, this American goldfinch perched..
Another rather better camouflaged goldfinch
gray catbird
Chipping sparrow
my favourite bird of the trip..the colourful northern cardinal

Wandering across the road from the inn, is a railway track and a cemetery….there was a lot of birdsong and Merlin identified the source as a Carolina Wren….

the lovely Carolina wren duly popped up on the fence
and displayed confidently

We also walked through Kent and turned right at the roundabout towards Kent school and the Hausatonic River where some friends were fly fishing..

the Hausatonic riverside park
common mergansers on the river
Great Blue Heron backlit in the morning light
Fly fishing on the Hausatonic River
the magnificent Bald Eagle posed over the river..a lifer!
Eastern Bluebird
We walked along the riverside next to Kent School and saw a number of pretties there….here an Eastern Wood Pewee
Eastern Phoebe
cedar waxwing
female house finch
turkey buzzard
? Anna’s hummingbird
grackles and a blue jay
another sighting of northern cardinal

So just a few morning’s ramblings yielded a few lifers for me…most notable was the Bald Eagle of course. Recommended
