Having cancelled our planned trip to Chiangrai due to the air pollution there in March, we went instead to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and managed to engage the services of Cheong Weng Chun our regular bird guide who had guided us in Fraser’s Hill before. We set off from our hotel in Damasara Heights at 6am and stopped for an excellent local breakfast in Kampong Bukit Tinggi Village before heading up to the Japanese Garden on Bukit Tinggi(High Hill literally). We arrived at the car park beyond the sentry post where we have to pay 15MYR per head to enter as birders….

and then a large bird in the tree…the lovely Green billed malkoha, one of three Malkohas we were to see on these two days…..

the sign for the Japanese Garden…we birded from the car park up to the hide for the Mountain Peacock Pheasant..most of the birds were seen in this walk of a few hundred metres.

and last bird of the morning was the stunning red bearded bee eater from afar

After 4 hours, we finished birding and did the hour long drive back to Damansara in about an hour….an excellent morning’s birding although dipping on the MPP and FP. HIghly recommended.
