The next day we went to Perth airport again and checked in for our flights to Christmas Island again only to find it was postponed by another 24 hr yet again….which basically put paid to our Christmas Island holiday…..Delaying or cancelling our flights is one thing but the communication with a human body from Qantas is so lacking…..this will be the last time we use Qantas again!…

Damage control to salvage what was left of our holiday……we opted to bird in and around Perth and the Margaret River area for the next three days…..we started at the Joondalup area at Raptors Ridge but drew a blank.

We then headed to the southern end of Lake Joondalup where there is a tine boardwalk…..it was around 2pm and scorchingly hot…..

a rustle in the trees above showed a colourful parrot
It was a female red capped parrot
and then the rather more spectacularly coloured male red capped parrot appeared
late lunch
beautiful pose of male red capped parrot
yellow billed spoonbill in flight
a kookaburra flew in and perched

and then took off
rainbow lorikeets were everywhere
pink galah, a common bird
pink galah
pink galahs squabbling
and then in a tree a number of corellas
at first we thought they were little corellas but closer examination shows they are more likely to be long billed corellas
an australian ringneck
welcome swallow
there were quite a few red tailed black cockatoos
red tailed black cockatoo with beautiful tail striations

The red capped parrots were the highlight of this hot afternoon walk….
