The birding fraternity here in Singapore had been buzzing with the willow warbler for a few weeks but I wasn’t really drawn to yet another similar looking warbler…but then there seemed to be more and more sightings of less frequently seen birds culminating in a Baillon’s Crake whose name I hadn’t even heard of! Managed to sneak away for just half an hour to seek it out….

Arriving there just past 10am, a small crowd of birders were there…the Marina Bay Sands Hotel can be seen in the background
First to show were a few lesser whistling ducks

a very pretty oriental reed warbler

a very handsome yellow bittern was hunting
and finally after hearing it for a while, my target bird, the Baillon’s Crake emerged…
A quite handsome bird, the Baillon’s Crake
Here we can see the typical green beak and the less green but still green legs…

So though I was there for only 30min…I got these and there were sunbirds, bee eaters, barbets etc etc…highly recommended. Will have to go again with more time!
