Birding Amagerfaelled, Copenhagen

When: September 2025 Weather: : Variable 14-18C

Nikon P900, OM1mk2 150-400mm Pro

In Copenhagen for the ESCRS conference and as luck would have it, the hotel I had chosen (more a co-living space) at DR Byen metro station was on the edge of a large city park called Amagerfaelled. We managed a few walks here accessing it at the roundabout where there is a stone feature labelling it as the Amarminoen hiking trail.

We managed two morning walks and one evening walk and the morning walks were much better. I had also finally made the big jump frm my old faithfuls the Nikon P900 and P950 for my bird photography and plunged into the micro4/3 category with the OM1 mk II with the 150-400mm Pro lens. It is significantly heavier than the P900 but the pictures are at a different level….

a bridge at the entrance with a swan family
A chiff chaff was the first bird we saw ….this by the Nikon P900
and the chiff chaff again on another day, now with the OM1

Chaffinch singing

the trails are a bit busy with cyclists galore
a handsome Eurasian magpie
nice view of the chiff chaff
then something colourful flashed in the cow enclosure
a pair of male pheasants faced off….over a female pheasant
and squabble they did!
pheasants
until the loser cowered and flew off….a most interesting encounter it was
the great tits were active and calling out lustily
Great tit
and then many responsive blue tits flitted about..

and finally just before we left , this colourful bird flew past

magnificent bull

Amager faelled was convenient and had a good amount of birdlife without having to travel outside the city at all….Highly recommended!
