Jakkur Lake Bengaluru Birding

After our meeting, we set off for a city lake in the heart of Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore. It’s a largish lake about 6-7km round. We got there before 7 and it was a most pleasant early morning walk. Unfortunately we were walking up the western bank of the lake and the morning sun shone on us, making it difficult to shoot water birds on the islands…

Jakkur Lake from a nearby apartment block…..it was too large to go all round so we just walked up the path on the left side of the lake..
one of the small islands on the lake…
spot billed pelicans and cormorant from a long way off
Little egrets
pond heron
little grebes
cormorant egret race across the lake
painted stork across the lake
the morning sun
the shady path on the west bank of the lake….lots of little birds but very heavily foliaged
we finally got to the top of the lake where the little bund is and got most of our birds around here…it’s a water treatment area…
the screeching of the red wattled lapwing demanded our attention
have not seen so many red wattled lapwings in a single location before

A most pleasant way to spend a couple of hours in the early morning before the Bengaluru hustle and bustle….
