Owly nights in Singapore

In Singapore for a few weeks….and was invited to a friend’s house for dinner….they had had a pair of newborn Scops owls hissing in the garden so I was hopeful that they’d still be around…..

Not long after I arrived, we heard the hissing call and it flew to the ground and then perched just 10 feet from us…..only a silhouette….and by the time we got our torch up it had flown…
It played peekaboo with us
and flew off to another branch where it posed
the juvenile collared scops owl!
what a cutie!
It flitted about ..
and peered intently at us
One last pose before it melted into the night…great start to the evening

And barely a few days after that on my night walk to the Holland Green Linear Park canal, I saw a dark shadow on the railing overlooking the canal……

the dark shadow on the railing was an owl!
He was looking towards the canal….showing off his plumage
and didn’t seem bothered at all by joggers and walkers passing right next to him..
a lovely uncommon resident…the buffy fish owl, yellow eyes and all!

So it’s been a great owl year so far….in Sri Lanka a couple of months ago, we saw the Bay Owl and Serendib Scops owl…..long may it last!
