Our group of six, 3 birders, 3 newbies, engaged Weng Chun Cheong to guide us over a two day period that we were in Fraser’s Hill. Having spend the first night at Ken House, we moved over to Silverpark for the remaining two nights. There were a few birds that I had wanted to get..the long tailed broadbill, little pied flycatcher, partridge, pygmy cupwing, rufous browed fc etc…..and I was hopeful that Weng would deliver…. In the morning, we paid a visit to Stephen’s Place in the Telekom loop and stephen kindly brought us over to the Nature Discovery Centre nearby….next time we’ll stay here…there is an observation tower and lots of indoor activities for when it’s raining…

several black thighed falconets posed at the level of the observation tower…

We had arranged for our guide to meet us in the afternoon at about 130pm at the entrance to Hemmant trail….No sooner had we parked than he yelled….long tailed broadbills….several of them were moving about rapidly in the forest and they were difficult to shoot but what a beautiful bird!

We then moved over to another location to seek the pygmy cupwing, a long sought-after lifer for me….we waited and waited….

a charming buff breasted babbler was first to show

then the melodious song of the lesser shortwing…..another lifer! The two white eyebrows glowing in the dark shadows
And here in his full glory, the Lesser Shortwing

Weng then says the Cupwing is nearby…his song a high pitched wheeeee…..

in a flurry of hops, this brown blur ball appeared on the curb..
stops to look at us…
The pygmy cupwing! At last!

We then moved on to a few other locations….at the gate, jelai, near the food court etc…

We ended the day at Jalan Richmond where the white crowned hornbill was seen in the previous post.
