We had a free morning so headed off to the relatively newly opened (2022) Rifle Range Nature Park just off Bukit Timah Road near Beauty World shopping centre. Being a weekday, the car park was almost empty and we spent a most agreeable hour exploring…

Rifle Range Nature Park at the bottom of the map adjoins the central catchment nature reserve..there was plenty of parking as it was a wednesday morning
No sooner had we parked when I heard a distinct call
it was the endangered straw headed bulbul which is more easily seen in Singapore than almost anywhere else
straw headed bulbul welcoming us
A lovely male olive backed or ornate sunbird serenaded us
and in a distant tree the contrast between the sun bathed black naped oriole and the Asian Glossy starlings was stark…notice the red eyes of the starlings even at this distance
there was a commotion in a fruiting tree….the coconut lorikeet with its yellow neck band

blue throated bee eaters were plentiful

If you need some breakfast, you can head towards Beauty World Shopping Centre which is connected to RRNP by a skybridge and have a lovely local meal
we then followed the signages to the quarry wetlands…a charming pond
where there were many spanner or T barbs…
there was also a hide
Another fruiting tree drew the attention of the Olive winged bulbul

final bird of the morning was the oriental white eye

final port of call..the toilets in the visitor centre overlook the greenery….

Rifle Range Nature Park is a little gem in Bukit Timah area….just an hour spent yielded these birds in cool comfortabel shady walkways …highly recommended!
