Qingcheng mountain is the home of Taoism and is famed for being a peaceful natural place, the basis of Tao. We opted to visit the back mountain in the morning and after about half an hour, we arrived at the cable car station intending to cable car up to the top…..alas it was closed for maintenance. We found a nearby trail which followed a little stream uphill and so off we went….

arriving at the little settlement on Back Mountain, this is where the cable car station is…
the trail led us by tea houses which straddled the stream…..
charming trail
first bird of the morning was the black throated tit or xiao ding dang

A stunning male plumbeous redstart then entertained us whilst we sipped our tea
he sang lustily

a nearby waterfall at the teahouse
and then the female redstart appeared…this palm tree was where they nested

we ended the morning by visiting the ‘Back of Back mountain’ where we had a simple lunch and explored a trail which was generally out of bounds… we found an interesting nest of 3 baby birds..likely to be Chinese magpies(thanks to KC for ID)
whre the streams were clear
so the back mountain outing was a great morning’s activity..
