After our Alishan excursion, we still had one free morning so we headed out for the hour long drive to Wulai to try and find the maroon oriole…..

an hour out of Taipei is Wulai which is known as a birding site….this is a river along the way at which ospreys were known to fish..unfortunately that morning the ospreys were not around…
Black crowned night herons were active though skimming across the water

at our first stop on the way up the hill, a few Taiwanese Blue Magpies entertained us

I had had high hopes of seeing many birds but alas it was a pretty thin day birding wise….so we adjourned to a local ice lolly stall to cool down….

another blue magpie showed up
the river was pretty though
on our way down, this lovely grey treepie appeared

Light vented bulbul was the last bird of the morning before we headed back to Taipei

All in all a quiet morning but still fun to see Wulai and environs
