Shamwari birds and beasts (2)

Another day of safaris….

early morning at Long Lee manor
we tracked the dominant male lion and found him as he emerged from the woods
he settled down and allowed us to see him up close
magnificent male
basking in the morning sun
why did the blesbuck cross the road?

another smart brown hooded kingfisher
male giraffe’s head
giraffes on the plain
zebra grazed peacefully
handsome wart hog
prancing springbok
cape buffalo
yellow mongoose
and back in the lodge after breakfast, htis smart speckled pigeon posed
weaver birds were also around
a spurwing goose on the far side of the pond
the very smart lesser striped swallow, easily seen around the lodge
a fiscal flycatcher
we then spent some time with the white rhinoceros…which has three humps rather than the two seen in the black rhino
here with junior in tow doing an enormous pee
stunning colour provided by the cape starling

pied starlings were in huge flocks

red hartebeest in flight!

bokmakerie were common

malachite sunbird couple
cape rock thrush
the very unique emerald spotted wood dove
fiscal shrike
pied crow
fork tailed drongo

So our third day ended with great lion, giraffe, rhino, cape wild buffalo and bird sightings…never a dull moment!
