Day 2 in Chengdu, 7am start at Guexi Eco Park, West side. You have to cross a huge road to get to it….

Guixi Eco park West side
entrance to west side of park
sunrise over the lake in front of the Global Centre just beside the park
the white browed laughing thrushes were busy
as were the light vented bulbuls…here with an impressive tail
vinous breasted parrotbill
plump long tailed shrike
white wagtail
sunrise over guixi park
beautiful light in the park
star bird of the morning…this lovely Little Bunting
about an hour away from us to the north is the Panda Base…here a memorial to the first Panda there…
The first sighting of a Panda is such a thrill….
here high in the trees
so cute
feeding happily
close up
so contented

The pandas are well worth seeing although I’d suggest getting there early before the masses of people arrive…..

next port of call was this incredible new museum called San Xing Dui….history of the Shu and Shang kingdoms from 3000 yr ago!
within the modern museum
ancient mask
statue with protruding eyeballs
after dinner at ‘the Bridge’ we took a walk in the Broad Narrow Street (Kuan Zai Jie)…

The China of today is so different from that for 30 years ago when I first started coming…it is clean quiet, green, modern, safe and efficient! Chengdu in particular is a place steeped in history, blessed with stunning scenery and wildlife. Highly recommended.
