Chikmagalur birding (II)

When: October 2023 Weather Cool 18-24C

Nikon P900, Nikon P950, Leica Q3

The second morning we took a walk on the trails around the house in both directions starting around 630am…

second day started with rolling clouds again
We saw this shy yellow crowned woodpecker on both days but getting good pictures was very difficult!
back view of orange minivet…so nice to be able to see this bird at eye level…usually only seen high up at the top of trees
and a lovely view of the female orange minivet
purple rumped sunbird showed again
grey wagtail in the garden
and then on the trail, a whole flock of the Malabar wood shrike were busy in the trees
this one caught its breakfast
Indian white eye peeping out
and then the prettiest bird of the trip…the beautiful flame throated bulbul, endemic to the western ghats of india
the yellow browed bulbul appeared again
greenish warbler
nilgiri flower pecker
velvet fronted nuthatches
indian yellow tit
indian white eye with magpie robin
apart from coffee and pepper plants, tea plantations are also nearby
The Draco…a flying dragon lizard landed on this tree
and he flashed his vertical yellow gular flap…a stabiliser when he flies
final bird of the trip was the crested serpent eagle perched quietly
so our trip ended with another pretty sunset

A couple of wonderful days in the western ghats of Chikmagalur, Karnataka…where the weather is cool and the birds plentiful.

Here’s a second attempt at a limerick following my previous one having passed by Limerick in Ireland…

There was a man from Singapore

Who happened to visit Bangalore

Of which he had heard

that there would be birds

in the hills of Chikmagalur
